One event can account for the annual CO2 emissions of several thousand people, especially international events such as festivals. But even “small” events such as trade fairs, conferences and many others emit large quantities. <\/p>

So what can you do to reduce your CO2 emissions and organize a responsible event<\/strong>?<\/p>

That’s what we’ll be looking at in this article.<\/p>

Promoting public transport<\/h2>

We all know by now that using a car or plane to get around pollutes. For a round trip from Paris to Marseille, the plane emits 304 kg of CO2, and the car 338 kg. The train, on the other hand, emits 3.6 kg of CO2. The difference is enormous. <\/p>

To get your audience to come to your event, the first thing to think about is encouraging them to come by public transport. This will drastically reduce your event’s carbon emissions. <\/p>

You can also encourage them to carpool. Car-sharing areas are multiplying, and when you go to an event, you rarely go alone. It’s an opportunity to spend even more time with loved ones. <\/p>

Choosing local service providers<\/h2>

Choosing local service providers is also linked to carbon emissions. The further they come, the more they pollute. (It’s rare for service providers to come by train or metro).<\/em><\/p>

But it also means choosing traditions. A caterer based in Valenciennes <\/strong>won’t offer you the same dish as a Breton caterer. <\/p>

At the Cit\u00e9 des Congr\u00e8s, you’re more likely to be served a Flemish carbonnade made with love.<\/em><\/p>

In this age of standardization, choosing local suppliers also means organizing a<\/strong> unique event<\/strong>.<\/p>

Don’t use “trendy” furniture<\/h2>

We’re going to contradict a little what we’ve written above, but you’ll soon understand.<\/p>

To set up your event<\/strong>, you need furniture. And when it comes to furniture, it’s time to standardize! A unique piece of furniture will be harder to install at other events. If they’re made-to-measure pieces, reusing them will be virtually impossible, and they’ll quickly end up in the garbage can. <\/p>

Give preference to furnishing spaces with standard, attractive and responsible furniture. To achieve this, you can choose furniture made from wood (which is easier to recycle) or materials that have already been recycled. <\/p>

Adapting your event to people with disabilities<\/h2>

An event can welcome <\/strong>a wide variety of audiences, including people with disabilities. It is therefore important to adapt your event to these people, and many solutions are available. <\/p>

We’ve listed a few for you:<\/p>

  • Choose a location accessible to people with reduced mobility (elevator, public transport, ramps, etc.)<\/li>
  • Provide sign language translation<\/li>
  • Creating Braille communication<\/li>
  • Provide rest areas and respect schedules for people with autistic disorders<\/li>
  • Providing vibrating vests for the hearing impaired<\/li>
  • Etc.<\/li><\/ul>

    There are many ways to make your event <\/strong>more inclusive, for all types of events and budgets.<\/p>
